HALO® is a resurfacing laser treatment designed to improve the appearance of sun damage, uneven tone, fine lines, and other visible signs of ageing while supporting your skin’s natural renewal process.
If your skin has lost some of its natural glow, HALO offers a customisable approach to skin revitalisation tailored to your skin concerns and treatment goals. With this platform, we can perform a light, gentle skin treatment where you may be back at work the next day, or dial up the laser for a full resurfacing treatment with a manageable recovery period.
Most resurfacing laser treatments require you to make a choice. You can go more aggressive with an ablative laser and achieve more dramatic improvement at the cost of significant downtime while your skin recovers. Or you can choose a gentler non-ablative laser with less downtime, knowing you may need several repeat treatments to see the benefits.
The HALO hybrid fractional laser was designed to reduce that compromise. It delivers two distinct wavelengths in a single pass, targeting damage on the skin’s surface while stimulating collagen production deeper in the dermis. The result is a treatment that works on multiple levels of the skin simultaneously, with a recovery period that many patients find manageable.
Two things distinguish the HALO treatment:
HALO is a “fractional” treatment. This means that it treats only a fraction of the skin at a time, leaving tiny bridges of intact tissue around each treated micro-zone.
The untreated skin around each microscopic treatment zone acts as a natural healing scaffold for recovery. This targeted approach can support faster recovery and reduced downtime compared with traditional full-field resurfacing lasers.
HALO is also a “hybrid” laser treatment. Traditional fractional laser treatments typically use a single type of energy. HALO combines two wavelengths, using both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths within a single device.
The Ablative 2940 nm Wavelength
This wavelength removes thin, damaged portions of the outermost layer of skin. It helps address sun damage, fine lines, uneven pigmentation, and rough texture.
Think of it as controlled exfoliation at the microscopic level, clearing away sun-damaged cells, uneven pigmentation, and rough texture so new skin can take its place.
When the ablative wavelength vaporises tiny columns of surface-level tissue, your body begins replacing those cells as part of the natural healing process. This can contribute to the initial clarity, smoothness, and reduction in pigmentation that may become noticeable during the early stages of recovery.
The Non-Ablative 1470 nm Wavelength
This wavelength penetrates deeper into the dermis without breaking the skin’s surface. The energy heats the underlying tissue and triggers a collagen-remodelling response, which supports longer-term improvement in firmness and skin quality.
This wavelength creates thermal energy in the deeper dermal layers, where collagen and elastin are found. That heat signals the body to produce new structural proteins through a process known as neocollagenesis.
This is why improvement may continue for several months after a HALO treatment.

Consultation, sun care, and post-treatment care are all important parts of the treatment process.
Before treatment, your provider will assess your skin, review your medical history, and discuss your treatment goals to determine whether HALO is appropriate for you.
A consultation is required before treatment. Because HALO is a resurfacing treatment, sun protection before and after treatment is essential. Your provider may also recommend adjusting certain skincare products or treatments before your appointment.
After treatment, it is important to follow your post-care instructions carefully and attend any recommended follow-up appointments.
Treatment time depends on the area being treated and your personalised treatment plan.
Most HALO appointments include consultation review, preparation, topical numbing, treatment, and post-care instructions.
Before treatment, a topical anaesthetic may be applied to help improve comfort.
During the procedure, the treatment area may be measured with motion-tracking technology to help ensure even coverage. Your provider then glides the HALO handpiece across the skin until each treatment area is complete.
You may feel heat, prickling, or sensitivity during treatment, depending on the area being treated and the treatment settings used.
Most patients describe HALO as a warm treatment with periods of prickling or increased sensitivity.
After treatment, the skin may continue to feel hot or warm for a period of time. Redness, swelling, and sensitivity are common during the early healing stage.
Many patients are able to return to routine daily activities soon after treatment, but visible healing may take longer.
Downtime varies depending on treatment depth and the area treated. Redness, swelling, bronzing, and MENDS—microscopic epidermal necrotic debris—can occur. MENDS may contain melanin drawn toward the surface by the laser.
Peeling can develop over the days following treatment, so social downtime should be considered when planning your appointment.
Some patients notice visible improvement within the first several days as the skin renews.
Pigment and surface changes may improve first, followed by continued improvement over time as the skin heals and remodels.
Results vary depending on the concerns being treated, the treatment settings used, your skin response, and how closely post-care and sun protection instructions are followed.
Treatment needs vary from person to person.
Depending on your skin concerns, your provider may recommend a single treatment or a series of treatments. Your treatment plan will be based on your goals, the areas being treated, and your tolerance for downtime.
HALO may be appropriate if you want to improve the appearance of visible sun damage, discolouration, fine lines, texture concerns, enlarged pores, or other signs of ageing.
A consultation is needed to determine whether HALO is appropriate for your skin type, treatment area, medical history, and goals.
HALO may not be suitable for everyone.
Your provider will review your medical history, current medications, recent sun exposure, active skin infections, wound-healing history, and any conditions that may affect treatment safety or recovery before proceeding.
HALO should be performed by a qualified medical aesthetics provider with appropriate training in laser treatments, skin assessment, and post-treatment care.
At Willow Medical Aesthetics, HALO treatments are delivered through a personalised plan tailored to your skin concerns, treatment goals, and healing expectations.
HALO may be combined with other treatments as part of a personalised skin rejuvenation plan.
Depending on your skin concerns and goals, your provider may recommend pairing HALO with medical-grade skincare or other complementary treatments to support tone, texture, pigment correction, and overall skin quality.
Combination treatment planning should also take healing time, sun exposure, and the order of treatment into account.
